About Me
- Stephanie McDuffie
- Hello I am Stephanie M. Freeman and I have created this to let everyone walk with me through my journey I am taking to accomplish my dream of qualifying for the Boston Marathon.Running is such a passion of mine. When I was 14 years old I experienced a life changing event that gave me this passion. I suffered a brain injury from a car accident that left me in a wheelchair & with no hope to ever walk again. For 2 months of my life I prayed for my miracle, and with strength and determination I proved all my doctors & nurses wrong... I walked again! When I run now a days I let this memory drive me harder than ever to be the best person/runner I can be! So therefore I know this goal of mine WILL happen for me and I will make most sure of it!

The mind acts on what you feed it....
Focused
I began running at the age of 24. Before I did not do any cardio work, in fact I was a powerlifter. I powerlifted for probably 4 years before I began running, and the only reason I started running was because I had gotten so big and bulkey and was consuming so many calories my weight had soared to 150 lbs! Yes, I said it 150 lbs... But I was solid muscle I must say but just way too big for a woman...
I was deadlifting super heavy weight and pulled something in my back which made me change my directions of training. I reached out to a friend of mine for advice, she was an excercise physiologist and nutritionist at the gym I went to. She was also an extremely intimidating woman, she looked me up and down and simply said you need to loose some weight & stop training like a man! She told me I could begin working with her since I was familar with how to do things, that is all but the cardio part.... So the next night at the gym she said lets go for a run, I looked at her like ok, I can do this so we did.... She took me approximately 3 miles that night and I couldn't walk the next day and had to miss work.
After that run I was hooked! I refused to let this thing beat me up like it did! Nothing had ever done this, and I am not a person to let it happen now! So I dropped 20lbs with running and circuit training with her.... I trained with her assisted her with her clients in the gym for probably 4 years, got married, got pregnant, but remained focused throughout it all on what my goals were!
Now here I am 10 years later, still dodging traffic, running through aches and pains and remaining focused every step i take! I say this often and I mean it every time I say it "This WILL happen for me" and i have eleminated all my doubts in my mind!

"It’s not the load that breaks you down, it’s the way you carry it." – Lena Horne
Reading this today really made me do alot of thinking and appreciating what I have been through in my life. I am a single mother, working a full time job, doing a ton of training as well, but I prioritize my schedule for everything I want... And believe me I get a ton of crap from people because they simply do not understand my concepts of it all, but luckily I do not care much for what narrow minded people have to say... I carry my load as I do because this is what makes me happy and balances my life. Everyone is capable of what I do. In fact I did not choose to be a single mother and I do not WANT to work as hard as I have to but unfortunately life throws you things you have to just roll with, and I roll along:)
Awesome and how I feel...
Please excuse the language on this but it is so very relavent to how I feel with my running, training and life in general...
Monday...
Its 5 am and I am deciding to skip out on my early morning run....Matt is helping me integrate a new type of training in with my own and its strange but its REST. I've never tried this tactic but I figure I might as well try something new since my old routine has left me injured. This doesn't mean I will not do my crosstraining exercises I will work my legs today at the gym I will do a lighter weight with higher repetitions. And heck probably throw the crossfit class in at lunch just because I love it! haha
Today when I got up my leg didn't feel as sore as I figured it would. I am not limping on it, it is inflammed of course but I know I could get a run in on it if I wanted to. But I shall save what I've got for later in the day but my usual routine in the mornings when I get up and don't run is chug my coffee and I stretch and foam roll so I will get on this and get this day started....
